How good is your morning routine? Your morning routine can set you up for a fantastic day, or it can set you up for a fall. If your morning routine is on point, you could load yourself with enough energy and goodness so that the rest of your day is amazing.
Way too many of us, though, rush through our mornings without a proper routine. We wake up late, brew a pot of cheap coffee, stumble into the shower, and then quickly head out of the door to start the commute to work. It isn’t a good start to the day!
Crucial to my morning routine is a cup of green tea, which I drink every single day. I don’t “neck it” while rushing from the shower to the kitchen in my towel; instead, I put aside twenty minutes each morning to enjoy my drink.
Drinking green tea every day is a very good idea because it comes with so many health benefits that boost your mind and body, thereby setting up the necessary framework for an amazing day – and an amazing life. Here are my top 10 reasons to drink green tea every day:
Green tea keeps you looking young
Unfortunately, it’s impossible to travel back in time and look 21 forever. But it ispossible to slow own the effects of ageing so that your skin looks as glowing and as smooth as it did when you were younger. Green tea looks after your skin by making it more resistant to the harmful UV rays emitted by the sun. This stops you from breaking out in wrinkles, and it stops you from looking leathery. Which isn’t cool.
Green tea can make you smarter
Ever had one of those days where you’ve got lots of work to do but just can’t seem to get your mind in gear? Whether you need to revise for exams, or whether you’ve got lots of spreadsheets to fill in for your boss, the pressure is on – but nothing’s going right.
Green tea can help. It contains caffeine (though not as much as coffee, which means that it doesn’t make you feel jittery), and it is this stimulant which can make you smarter.
Caffeine works by blocking something called Adenosine, which boosts the production of neurotransmitters, such as dopamine. This is a good thing because it gets the right neurones firing in your brain, which boosts mood, reaction time and memory.
Green tea helps with diabetes
Diabetes is a disease which is on the rise, with more and more adults being diagnosed with it each year. Over 300,000,000 people around the world have it.
Drinking tea each day is important if you are suffering from Type II Diabetes because it can help to regulate your glucose levels, thereby preventing nasty spikes in your blood sugar levels after eating. Green tea can also reduce the risk of you developing diabetes in the first place.
Green tea can help burn fat
Take a look at the ingredients list on any fat burning supplement, and you’ll probably see green tea. Weird, huh? Well, not really.
See, green tea boosts bat burning and improves the metabolic rate. In a study of 10 healthy men, green tea was found to enhance energy expenditure by almost 5%. Green tea can also increase fat oxidation by almost 20%, which means that this amazing tea burns more fat. This is fantastic if you’re trying to lose weight.
Green tea can counter the effects of alcohol
Got a nasty hangover that is ruining your day? Worried about the effects of your drinking on your liver? Green tea helps in the short term by providing relief from a hangover, and it also helps in the long term by protecting your liver.
Green tea can help with heart disease
Like diabetes, the number of adults suffering from heart disease is on a continual rise. If you suffer from heart disease, green tea helps by relaxing the lining of blood vessels so that, if there are any changes in your blood pressure, your body is better able to cope.
Green tea can also stop clots from forming, which is usually the number 1 factor behind heart attacks.
Green tea could reduce the risk of cancer
Cancer is of course a really scary thing. While there is no magic pill that will prevent it, there are at least preventive measures we can take to reduce our risk.
And drinking green tea each day is a fab preventative measure.
An uncontrolled growth of cells is the cause of cancer, and oxidative damage can cause cells to spiral out of control and multiply without restraint. Antioxidants, such as the ones found in green tea, can stop this from happening. The types of cancer that green tea can help to prevent include prostrate cancer, colon cancer and breast cancer.
Green team promotes healthier gums and teeth
How good is your smile? A winning smile can be the difference between having lots of confidence and no confidence at all. To give your self-esteem a boost, you could do a lot worse than drink green tea each day, Although drinking coffee can stain your teeth, green tea has a more positive effect and it can actually give your oral health a huge boost.
Green team could reduce risk of Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer’s isn’t really something we tend to think about when we’re young, but it’s important to take preventive measures now and protect your brain. As you age, your brain ages, too. And in some people, it will develop neurodegenerative diseases – such as Alzheimer’s.
Numerous studies have documented that the catechin compounds you’ll find in green tea have protective effects on the neurones in your brain, thereby significantly reducing your risk of developing debilitating brain diseases.
Green tea destroys bacteria
Bacteria is literally everywhere, and because you can’t see it, it’s really hard to guard against it. And there is quite literally nothing worse than waking up with the flu just a few weeks after recovering from the flu!
As well as protecting your brain, catechin’s can also destroy bacteria, thereby preventing viruses from wreaking havoc with your immune system. Green tea will also lower your risk of developing infections.
