10 farmers receive awards in La Nkwantanang

Ten (10) farmers in the La Nkwantanang Municipality have been honored with awards for outstanding contribution to the growth of the area’s agriculture.

Ibrahim Amadu from Danfa was adjudged the overall best farmer in the municipality.

For his prize, he received a tricycle, wheelbarrow, knapsack sprayer, wellington boots, agro-chemicals and a certificate.

This was at a farmers’ day celebration held at the Pantang-Village under the theme “Planting for food and jobs”.

Alhaji Boniface Abubakari Saddique, Minister of Inner City and Zongo Development, said transforming the nation’s agriculture, was a major priority of the government.

It was determined to ensure increased crop yield and returns to make things better for the farmer.

The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, praised the farmers for their immense contribution to the nation’s economy.

Madam Jennifer Dede Afagbedzi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), announced that 91 farmers were registered for the “Food and Jobs programme” in the area.

They are into maize and vegetables farming and had put a total of 71 hectares of land under cultivation.

These farmers, she said, were supplied with 288 bags of fertilizer, 13 bags of seed maize and 22 packets of seed pepper.

She pledged to give strong support to farmers in the municipality for optimal performance.
