100 Teachers Lose Study Leave

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has withdrawn study leave granted to about 100 teachers for misleading it about their course of study.

It has been established that the affected teachers, who are among a total of 14,636 teachers currently on study leave have changed the courses for which they were granted study leave.

The Financial Controller of the Service, Charles Otoo, disclosed this yesterday at a Press briefing in Accra yesterday.

?Regrettably, most of the new courses being offered by the teachers in the universities, polytechnics and other educational institutions do not relate to teaching nor their areas of specialisation, making the GES suspicious that the teachers will not return to the classroom on completion of their study leave?, he said.

According to him, it was regrettable that a large number of teaching staff were on study leave, adding the situation was costing the government a lot since they were being paid while replacements also had to be found,
