President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not tell the truth to the people of Ghana when he said his government had made available $100 million to fight the coronavirus outbreak in Ghana, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency, Mr James Kluste Avedzi, has said.

The opposition lawmaker said only $35 million dollars has been made available to fight the virus which has, so far, killed five out of the two hundred four people infected in Ghana.

Mr Avedzi told Accra100.5FM’s parliamentary correspondent, Richard Appiah Sarpong on Thursday, 2 April: “Not too long ago, the president announced to the nation that an amount of $100 million was made available by the finance minister to fight the virus.

“You may recall that yesterday, the House approved 35 million [dollars] from the World Bank and the IMF.

“If you take the USD35 million out of the USD100 million, there is a gap of 65 million dollars. As we speak, where the government is going to raise that USD 65 million, we all don’t know.

“The announcement by the president that USD100 million means that the president did not tell the people of Ghana the truth”, Mr Avedzi argued.
