Sekondi, Nov. 4, GNA - Thirteen labourers and four farmers charged with rioting and destruction of property were on Tuesday granted a total of 340 million cedis bail with one surety each.
They all pleaded not guilty to both charges and would re-appear before the court on Nov. 11 this year.
Police Inspector Kumah Mensah told the Sekondi circuit court, chaired by Mr. Alex Owusu-Ofori, that the investigators could not travel to Sefwi Wiawso to conduct further investigations, due to logistical problems.
At the same court, Wisdom Attipoe, a 28-year-old driver was jailed eight years in hard labour for stealing while three of his accomplices were granted a total of 60 million cedis bail.
He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal and stealing but the others pleaded not guilty.
The suspected accomplices are Paa Kwesi, Kwame Adu-Afful and Yaw Domfeh.
The Court also sentenced a 33-year-old unemployed Nigerian to two years' imprisonment in hard labour for attempted rape. The convict, Nnamdi Edomobi, who claimed to be in transit to Nigeria, pleaded guilty, saying it was the work of the devil. The court ordered that he should be deported to Nigeria after serving his sentence.
