DODOWA, JUNE 21, GNA - Thirteen passengers were injured in an accident on the Dodowa road on Monday, when a KIA truck with registration No. ER 354 V drove into a passenger Toyota bus No. GR 7937 R travelling from Koforidua to Accra.
Eight of the accident victims were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital and some were treated and discharged. A victim whose name was not readily available was quickly transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Some of the victims with minor injuries were treated and discharged at the University of Ghana Hospital at Legon.
The Madina District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Boasiako told the GNA that the MTTU personnel from his outfit who were detailed to check traffic offences on both Aburi and Dodowa roads signalled a blue KIA truck to stop. The truck, which was not pasted with Insurance and Roadworthy stickers refused to stop. The driver, Samuel Addo nearly drove into the police personnel on duty by the roadside. The police therefore took down the number of the vehicle. DSP Antwi-Boasiako said that his men later left the Aburi road and move to the Dodowa road and incidentally met the KIA vehicle parked on the side of the road.
The Police asked the driver to produce the particulars of the vehicle, including his driving license. When the driver told the police that he had no documents on him, he was asked to follow them to the Madina Police Station but he refused. He got angry and then jumped into his KIA truck which had already been occupied by a police woman and sped off towards Dodowa telling the police woman that he was going to crush her to death. DSP Antwi-Boasiako added that, the driver drove carelessly toward any on-coming vehicle and nearly collided with two different vehicles coming from the opposite direction. Samuel Addo later carelessly drove into the side of a Toyota bus which was heading towards Accra from Koforidua.
After the accident Addo escaped from the scene, living the policewoman. The bus somersaulted thrice and laid on it side injuring all passengers on board. The Madina Police later towed the two accident vehicles to the police station and the careless driver resurfaced after several hours in hiding and was arrested and detained. GNA.
