The police will arraign today, Friday, 24 April 2020, some 130 motorbikers arrested on Thursday for breaching social-distancing protocols, ASP Efia Tengey, the PRO of the Accra Regional Police Command, has revealed.

She said on Accra100.5FM’s Ghana Yensom show on Friday that the police will rely on the Restrictive Impositions Act 65 to prefer charges against the culprits.

“We are processing them before court today. The Restrictive Impositions Act talks about the social-distancing policy and, so, these people were arrested for flouting that rule,” she told Kwabena Prah Jnr in an interview.

The bikers had their bikes impounded on Thursday following their arrest around Tudu, Circle, Ministries, UTC, Kimbu, and Tema Station.

As part of measures to prevent further spread of the coronavirus, motorbike riders have been banned from picking pillion riders.
