14,577 children immunised in Ahafo-Ano North

Tepa (Ash), April 15, GNA - A total of 14,577 children under five years old, were immunised against poliomyelitis in the Ahafo-Ano North District in Ashanti, during the second round of the National Immunisation Programme, which ended on Sunday, April 10. This is out of the targeted 14,102 children, representing 103.3 per cent coverage.

Nana Adu-Bobi, the District Disease Control Officer, who briefed newsmen on the exercise at Tepa on Thursday, said 140 volunteers and health workers were mobilised and 16,674 out of 20,197 oral polio vaccines were used for the programme.

He said apart from two sub-districts, Tepa and Betiako, the three remaining sub-districts, Manfo, Anyinasuso and Subriso exceeded their targets.

Nana Adu-Bobi gave the breakdown as follows, Tepa 4,055 children out of 4,114 representing 98.6 per cent, Betiako, 2,852 out of 3,074 (92.7 per cent), Manfo, 3,591 out of 2,939 (122.1 per cent), Anyinasuso, 2,341 out of 2,311 (101.2 per cent) and Subriso, 1,738 out of 1,664 (104.4 per cent).

He said enough personnel undertook the exercise and attributed the failure of some sub-districts to meet their targets to the fact that some parents did not send their children for immunisation. Nana Adu-Bobi commended the district assembly, heads of government departments, health workers and volunteers for collaborating efforts to make the exercise a success. 15 April, 05
