14-year-old charged for murder

A 14-year-old Junior High School (JHS) student, arrested for alleged murder, wept bitterly, when the Nkawie circuit court ordered him to be kept in prison custody.

Relatives, who accompanied him to the court also shared in the anguish and the pain as they broke into tears for the young girl.

Enock Asiamah’s plea was not taken and would re-appear on Monday, September 17.

Police Chief Inspector Philip Jagri told the court presided over by Justice Frank Owusu Afriyie that both the accused and the deceased, Rita Appiah, 13, live at Esaase in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District.

For some time now, Asiamah has been teasing her for not having her ear pierced.

He said the deceased not comfortable with the gibes reported him to the grandmother and he was reprimanded.

The boy could not understand why Rita should resort to the line of action she took and decided to beat her up.

The prosecution said on August 14, Asiamah chanced upon the girl, allegedly assaulted and hit her head against a wall.

Six days after the said beating, the deceased complained of severe headache and was rushed to the hospital, where she died the following day.

Meanwhile the docket on the case had been sent to the Attorney-General’s Office.
