15 DCEs take office in Eastern Region

Koforidua, Aug. 8, GNA - Fourteen confirmed District Chief Executives and one Municipal Chief Executive for the Eastern Region were on Monday presented with their Instruments of Office with a charge to ensure that the Region remains "politically active, economically viable and socially cohesive."

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah, who made the call at Koforidua, urged the DCEs to support the vision of making the Eastern Region a 'paragon of regions' that thrives on catering for the felt-needs of its ethnically diverse communities without any streak of discrimination.

Those sworn in for their second term of office included Nana Kwasi Adjei Boateng for the New Juaben Municipality; Mr Victor Emmanuel Asihene, East Akyem; Mr Michael Kofi Mensah, Suhum/Kraboa/Coalter; Mr Yaw Yiadom Boakye, Kwaebibirem and Mr Andrews Nyarko Adu, Akuapem South. Among the first timers included Mr Emmanuel Ntow Bediako, Asuogyaman; Mr Edward Adu Aboagye, Akuapem North; Mr Sackitey Asare, Manya Krobo; Nana Onwuma Asante, Kwahu South and Mr Frank Marcellus Bosumtwi, Birim South.

The others were, Mr Solomon Yaw Fordjour, Afram Plains, Mr Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, West Akyem and Mr Emmanuel Nana Acquah, Birim North. Mr Kwesi Osei Agyepong, DCE for Atiwa and Nana Kofi Kese, Kwahu West, made history by becoming the first DCEs for their respective districts.

Chief Executives for two other districts, Fanteakwa and Yilo Krobo are yet to be in place. Whereas the President has re-nominated Mr Ofoe Caesar for confirmation as DCE for Fanteakwa, that of Yilo Krobo is yet to be named.

Mr Yaw Barimah advised the DCEs to recognize the importance of traditional authorities and work in tandem with them so as to hasten the pace of development in the Region to a level that would enhance the quality of life of the people.

He charged that Districts sharing common natural resources to energise their efforts in a manner that could add value to their collective enterprise than when each went alone.

In a speech read on behalf of his colleagues, Nana Adjei Boateng, gave the assurance of the DCEs resolve to discharge their duties with honesty and transparency that would honour the President for his confidence in appointing them to their respective offices. Dignitaries that witnessed the ceremony included the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Susie Mensah, Mr Fred Guggisberg Asante, Member of the Council of State, Mr Kofi Adusei Poku, Deputy Local Government and Rural Development Minister and the Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addi Ankamah.
