Kumasi, July 8, GNA - Dr. Joseph Oduro, Ashanti Regional Deputy Director in-charge of Public Health, has inaugurated a 15-member Ashanti Regional Swine Flu Technical Committee in Kumasi on Wednesday. The committee is to plan and coordinate activities and provide policy and strategize to avert the transmission of the disease. It will also provide resources for the effective implementation of its plans to forestall any possible outbreak of the disease. Dr. Oduro said Ghana has not recorded any case of the pandemic and that it should not be unconcerned but to take pragmatic measures to check any possible outbreak.
Mrs. Anima Wilson, the Ashanti Regional Deputy Minister, said the two reported cases of the disease in the neighboring Cote d'Ivoire recently was a warning to Ghana to be alert. She appealed to the committee to work hard and educate the public about the symptoms.
Members of the committee are Dr. Joseph Oduro, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director in-charge of Public Health as Chairman, Dr. John Tsitsiwu and Dr. Raphael Folitse from the Veterinary Services Department, Mr. Emmanuel A. Yirenkyi, Immigration Service Department, Lieutenant Oko Nettey, 4 Infantry Battalion and Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. 08 July 09
