Seventeen prostitutes have been arrested at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in a swoop by the Nima police.

Two nursing mothers and nine men, who were allegedly preventing the police from carrying out their operation were also arrested.

Prostitution in Ghana is illegal thus the police often go after these commercial sex workers.

According to the Nima Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent Abraham Acquaye, the suspects are being screened and will be arraigned soon.

“We are holding them for the offence of prostitution particularly the ladies and then the men, obstruction of justice and assault on police Officers,” Chief Superintendent Acquaye added.

He added that “when we were effecting the arrest they [the men] made an attempt to attack us so we have to at least fight them back by firing about two warning shots to scare them, but in the process we were able to bring this people under control.”

The Kwame Nkrumah Circle is a thriving den for sex workers where brisk sex business takes place at various locations within the enclave.
