Nsuta (Brong Ahafo), 21 Oct. School management committees in the Techiman district have been charged to evolve measures to ensure effective implementation of the free compulsory universal basic education programme in the district. Mr. Kwaku Donyina, assistant district director of education in charge of finance and administration, said school management committees are not supposed to take over the functions of parent/teacher associations but to complement their efforts. He was inaugurating 18 school management committees for the Nsuta education circuit in the Techiman district at a joint ceremony at Nsuta at the weekend. He advised the various committees to involve the local communities in their deliberations to enhance the management of the schools. They should collaborate with the parent/teacher associations in the provision of infrastructure for the schools. Mr. Donyina asked the committees to ensure environmental cleanliness in the schools and use the appropriate channels for redressing short-comings of teachers and students. Mr. Alfred Becho, Nsuta circuit supervisor enumerated some of the problems facing schools in the area which include lack of residential accommodation for teachers, inadequate classrooms and furniture.
