The General Legal Council (GLC) has called 182 new lawyers to the bar. The ceremony took place on May 31, 2024, during a special meeting of the GLC.
Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo, speaking at the ceremony, extended her congratulations to the new lawyers.
She emphasized that the practice of law "is not an arena for the mediocre display of supposed knowledge superiority, but rather a domain for consistent, humble, sober, and reflective thought processes that enable you to serve those who rely on you with clarity and benefit."
She further urged the new lawyers to employ their knowledge for the betterment of society.
The Chief Justice remarked that the world "is confronted with unprecedented challenges that require wisdom, resilience, and understanding in the way lawyers interpret and apply the legal principles they have learned to real-world issues."
She called on them to undertake their work with a sense of duty and responsibility.
Among the 182 lawyers was a veteran journalist and former president of the Ghana Journalists Association, Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie.
In attendance were members of the council, led by the Chief Justice, Justices of the Superior Courts of Judicature, the Director of Legal Education at the Ghana School of Law, the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, and deans from various law faculties.
