Ho, Aug. 25, - A total of 188,000 communities in the Volta Region have been provided with potable water supply systems under the first phase of the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) community water supply and sanitation project. One hundred and forty five communities were targeted to benefit from the first phase which lasted from 1993-1997. Mr Simon Edem Asimah, Volta regional co-ordinator of the project, made this known to the GNA at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the project and district assemblies in the region for the start of the second phase which is expected to run for for six years. Mr Asimah said the project spent about 38,152 million cedis during the first phase adding that it would meet its target of providing potable water and sanitation facilities for between 40 to 49 per cent of rural communities in the region at the end of the ten-year project.
