DAYBREAK’s intelligence has gathered that as part of the cleansing process going on in the Armed Forces, seven (7) Army Generals and twelve (12) junior rank officers are on their way home.
The nineteen officers would be formally informed of the Military High Command’s intention to release them from the Service between March and December 2011 after their names were penned down as part of a list under the guise of releasing officers who have reached their compulsory retiring ages.
The affected are Major General K Yankson (GH/1339), Brigadier Generals JK Nkrumah (GH/1432), GK Adjei (GH/1448), JK Forkuo (GH/1514), CK Ocran (GH/1516), M Owusu – Ababio (GH/1571) and JA Kwassie (GH/1552).
Others are Group Captain Osei-Kyeremeh (GH/1696), Group Captain E Asare Yeboah (GH/1832), Colonel K Oppong-Otchere (GH/1757), Group Captain AR Nkoah (GH/1822), Colonel J Kwankye (GH/1838), MD Boampong (GH//1860), Captain (GN) T Baffoe-Mensah (GH/1925), Captain (GN) G Anim (GH/1787), Colonels S Agyekum Yamoah (GH/1844) EA Mensah (GH/2150).
Lieutenant Colonels CB Ankomah (GH/2195) and MA Tenkorang (GH/2207) are also to be affected and this has annoyed a number of senior officers in the Service to wonder if this is not a direct political and ethnic offloading of personnel.
They claim that, it is a deliberate, well planned and clever tactics been employed to retain over-aged officers from the Volta Region. “For instance, why is Major General K Yankson, who is yet to reach his compulsory retiring age on 12/08/12 at 63 years, being released prematurely but Rear Admiral MM Tahiru (GH/1435) who will also reach his compulsory retiring age on 07/02/12 is not even affected even though both of them are Commandants.
“Again, why is Naval Commodore F Daley (GH/1419) who is already 63 years old and has exceeded the compulsory retiring age for Brigadier Generals and equivalents, still in the Service but M Owusu Ababio who is yet to reach his compulsory retirement on 03/12/2011 being released? What about Brigadier General PK Opoku (GH/1426) who has also passed his compulsory retiring age?
Furthermore, they claim that Brigadier General HWK Agbenuzah who was born on 03/01/51 has already passed his compulsory retiring age but has been ‘smuggled’ to DR Congo as the Sector West Brigade Commander to ‘evade’ retirement while his mate M Owusu Ababio has been ‘brought forward’ for compulsory retirement.
Another interesting development cited is the case of Group Captain EE Ahadome (GH/1771) who was born on 12/02/53 and has passed his compulsory retiring age as allowed for Colonels and equivalents has been appointed a Staff Officer with United Nations Interim Force-Lebanon (UNFIL) and Ghanaian Contingent Commander for one year also to ‘evade’ retirement.
