Government has indicated that no contractor will be paid if the dams they are constructing in the three Northern regions for the 'one village one dam' policy of the government does not meet the required specifications.

"No contractor has been paid for their works until inspections on the project are carried out by government and the project handed over to same," asserts Deputy Minister for Information, Pius Enam Hadzide.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, the Deputy Minister for Information explained they are glad the NDC have realized that government is honoring its promise to provide dams for irrigation of farms in the northern regions.

"Government will continue to honour its promises to the people of Ghana. The NDC should stop their propaganda and pay attention to the policies of the government that are being fulfilled on daily basis," he said.

The opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC] has called on government to make public costs of their One Village, One Dam projects.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC claimed that the Nana Addo-led government is “causing financial loss to the state” with the “shoddy” project.

“It has become abundantly clear that the One Village, One Dam policy was one of the deceptive promises of President Akufo-Addo, intended for electoral gain and not really meant to be fulfilled. It therefore comes as a surprise to us that this same President Akufo-Addo is promising to investigate complaints over the quality of 'Dams' constructed under the 1V1D program, whilst the Vice President is said to have also ordered that payment to some contractors be halted over shoddy work,” a portion of the statement read.

“What are the specifications and cost of the so-called 1V1D projects as awarded?” The statement questioned.
