2005 second runners-up Best Teacher receives her award

Kade (E/R), May 10, GNA - Five personal computers donated to the Larbikrom Presbyterian Primary School in the Kwaebibirim District, where the 2005 National Best Teachers Award runners-up, Ms Constance Amoh, is teaching, had been lying idle because the village has no electricity. Osabarima Atwere Bediako II, the Osiewuohene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area and chief of Akyem Wenchi, disclosed this on Tuesday at the ceremony to formally present the Peugeot 206 saloon car to Ms Amoh, at Kade.

The Prestige Motor Company Limited donated the 12,000 Euros car to the Best Teacher Award Scheme.

In recognition of the efforts of Ms Amoh, the Kwaebibirim District Assembly also offered to take up the cost of the distance education studies of Ms Amoh.

Osabarima Bediako, therefore, appealed to the Eastern Regional Minister to help extend electricity to Larbikrom so that pupils in the village would also get the opportunity to be computer literate. At the same ceremony, the winner of the National Disabled Cycling Championship, Master Benjamin Kofi Abugri of the Kade Secondary School, was presented with a bicycle and one million cedis, donated by the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council.

The Kwaebibirim District Assembly also awarded full scholarship to Master Abugri for his secondary school education. Before presenting the awards, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah urged parents to let Ms Amoh's award encourage them to educate their daughters.

He noted that, the fact that Ms Amoh won the award, while teaching in a village, was an indication that no matter where one was situated, if one contributed his or her best to the national efforts, such people would always receive the necessary recognition. Mr Barimah advised Ms Amoh to regard the award as a challenge to her to always offer her best in her occupation.

The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ewura-Abena Ahwoi, urged Ms Amoh to help establish an association of best teacher award winners in the Kwaebibirim District and the Eastern Region to support teaching and learning in the region.

In her acceptance speech, Ms Amoh appealed to newly trained teachers to accept postings to the rural areas and offer their best to the pupils in those areas, because they were also children of Ghana. Master Abugri called for support for disabled persons to enable them to give of their best to the nation.
