2014 Kundum suspended over Ebola scare

The Nzema Maanle Traditional Council in the Western Region had suspended this year's annual Kundum Festival due to the Ebola scare.

The festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Ahanta and Nzema areas between September and October each year is for merry-making, family reunion, fund raising in support of development projects and to initiate new ones.

Awulae Ndah-Bozomah I, Queen-mother of Western Nzema Traditional Area (WNTA) said this at a community durbar in Half-Assini, in the Western Region.

According to the Queen-mother, foreigners from some neighbouring countries including some of the countries whose people have been infected by the Ebola virus participates in the festival.

She said it had, therefore, become prudent that the festival was postponed till next year, so as not to put the country and its people at risk.

The Ebola disease had killed over one thousand people in Sierra Leon, Liberia, Senegal, Guinea and Nigeria.
