2015 WASSCE: Ease ‘dumsor’ for students to learn - Akufo-Addo

The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo is pleading with the government to “do all it can to ensure students are not deprived of vital learning hours due to ‘dumsor’ as they write their WASSCE.

“Preparations towards the taking of this all-important exam have been rocky, as a result of the erratic nature of power supply facing our country these last 3½ years. The students have not found it convenient to offer any excuses for their inability to study, but, rather, have had to employ unconventional measures to enable them study. I congratulate them for that,” Nana Addo said in a statement to wish the 268,771 Senior High School students “the very best of luck.”

He added: “To this end, I add my voice to calls being made by some heads of Senior High Schools asking for a reprieve from the ongoing load shedding exercise during the period of the examination.

“Throughout my public life, I have repeatedly stated that education is the best way by which we can dramatically change the fortunes of our country and join the group of developed nations.”

“A society that aims to transform itself into a modern productive player in the global market, as we in Ghana must seek to do, can only do so with education and skills training of its young people.

“Quality, accessible education is the key to Ghana’s future and I am asking our students to seize the key with both hands and open the door to their own and Ghana’s bright future,” the three-time flagbearer of the main opposition said.
