2016 Elections: NDC's defeat was God's choice - Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has said that the loss of the National Democratic Congress in the December 2016 polls was ordained by God.

According to him, though the party made all efforts humanly possible to garner votes, God had the final say.

“If God blesses you with victory, you should know he has the power, you can try all you want but if God says this is what I want, who are you to say you won’t agree?”, he stated.

Speaking at the 25th rally of the National Democratic Congress Saturday June 10, Mr. Mahama said elections involved risk taking; “sometimes you win, other times you lose”, he stated. He maintained that the fact that the party lost despite its hardwork only goes to show that it was not in God’s will that the party won the elections.

“It happened that we tried our best in the 2016 elections but God didn’t give us what we wanted”, he said.

This may sound rather contradictory considering the former President emphatically indicated his strong convictions of an ordained win by God for the party, prior to the 2016 December elections. It would be recalled that John Mahama during his campaign tours at Kyebi in the Eastern Region said God had already ordained the NDC’s victory.

“God has already decided who will win the 2016 polls as we speak, He has already decided the winner. And I know by God’s grace, by the grace of Jesus, Insha Allah, Insha Allah, 7th December, 2016, NDC will win the elections.”, he stated.

The National Democratic Congress held a massive rally at the Mandela Park at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region Saturday, June 10. This formed part of activities to mark the party’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
