Former President John Dramani Mahama has envisaged that he will beat his closest contender, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo if the elections of 2020 are fairly conducted by the Electoral Commission.

“I am sure that and I can say confidently that if the elections are free and fair in 2020 in this country, NDC will win the election”, he disclosed at a retreat for some leaders of the party in Tamale covered by MyNewsGh.com.

He called for a level playing field by the Electoral Commission (EC) by conducting the 2020 polls in a free, fair and transparent manner to give equal opportunities for the contesting political parties to be able to win.

“We do not seek to influence the election in our favour and by that I mean we do not seek to rig the election but of course we do not want anybody to rig the election. We want a level playing field, we want a free and fair election, and we want utmost transparency with every stakeholder having equal opportunity of being able to win”, he stated.

According to him, the disagreements between the NDC and EC is not borne out of hate for the Commissioners or the electoral body but the fact the party trying to ensure that the commission discharges its duties professionally in order not to compromise the integrity of the 2020 polls.

“We have had our disagreements with the EC not because we slight any of the commissioners or we have any antagonism with the Electoral Commission. Indeed if you look at the history of elections since the fourth republic, NDC has been the party that has cooperated most with the Electoral Commission than any other party. We raise issues and put pressure on the electoral commission because we want it to day what is right so that we all have the confidence that the integrity of the elections will not be compromised”, he revealed.
