Following the conclusion of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination, candidates and teachers from the Social Welfare exam centre in the La Nkwantanang municipality have shared their experiences.

Candidates from Pentecost School in Madina, speaking exclusively on Ghanaweb TV’s TrendingGH, expressed satisfaction with the BECE process, describing it as smooth overall. Despite encountering some minor challenges, they conveyed optimism about their performance while anticipating success in the examinations.

However, some teachers reported that they were barred from entering examination centres. They explained that this directive was part of measures by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to prevent examination malpractices.

At a press conference last week, the Head of Public Affairs for WAEC, John Kapi announced that a total number of 569,095 candidates had registered for the exam, with 282,648 being males and 286,447 being females from 19,506 participating schools.

Furthermore, the council noted that it had implemented some rules and regulations to curb malpractices.

Some of these included the prohibition of mobile phones at examination centres and, the prohibition of school proprietors, parents, headmasters, and teachers from the exam centres among other directives.

So far, 16 individuals have been arrested for various examination offences in some parts of the country.
