2024 Election: How many will they kill? – Bagbin cautions against use of military to intimidate voters

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has cautioned the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government against any attempt to use the military to subvert the will of Ghanaians in the pending December 7, 2024, general elections.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with TV3, on September 10, 2024, Speaker Bagbin indicated that the people of Ghana, just as in the past, are not going to allow the military to intimidate them into choosing a leader they do not want.

He indicated that military men themselves would be putting themselves in harm's way if they allow themselves to be used as a tool to interfere in the election.

“You see, people really don't understand the situation we are in. The Ghanaian voter can no longer be intimidated. We saw what happened in Kenya. We saw what happened in Nigeria. Ghana is not immune to it. I was a young man in Legon during the regime of President General IK Acheampong. And that was the time they brought in the Mohas to support the police; they were blue in colour.

“We faced the Mohas with our bodies, not even with sticks, empty hands. Some of us were killed. But we fought and managed to turn this country into democratic Ghana. The people are not afraid of the military. How many are they in this country? How many are the people? How many bullets do they have? How many will they kill? How many of them will survive? We've seen it before from country to country,” he said.

He added, “So, if there is any intention of using the military to threaten and intimidate the voter, they better think twice.”
