The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has projected a 70 percent voter turnout for the 2024 election.
At a forum in Accra on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the NCCE Chairperson, Kathleen Addy, stated that a recent survey conducted by the Commission found that Ghanaians consistently demonstrate a strong desire to vote.
"For the research we conducted in 'Matters of Concern to the Ghanaian Voter', people do want to vote, everything from our history has indicated that Ghanaians will turn out to vote.
"So, far over the course of the 4th Republic, we have consistently maintained around 70 percent voter turnout for the presidential and parliamentary elections," she stated.
Kathleen Addy also indicated that the NCCE has actively engaged citizens through various initiatives, encouraging public participation in the electoral process.
"We actively engage people and encourage them to vote, if you see some of the T-shirts we are wearing, there are messages to go and vote.
"Ghanaians are really enthusiastic about the political choices they make, and I have every confidence that this year they will go out and vote," she added.
She expressed confidence that turnout for the pending election will either meet or even exceed the 70 percent benchmark.
"The 70 percent turnout that we've had, I am pretty sure that we will meet it, be very close to it or exceed it this year. But with the voter education ensuring that people go out to vote is still ongoing," she explained.
