The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketiah, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to declare the results of the 2024 general elections.

He expressed frustration over the delay in announcing the results, especially since internal polling indicated that the NDC is winning the presidential and most of the parliamentary seats.

The National Chairman of the NDC questioned why the NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia has conceded defeat in the elections, yet the EC is stalling the official declaration of the results.

“Before the concession speech, the party put out the results as compiled through our own coalition system. Fortunately, these results have not been contested by our main opponents, and they have heeded our call to concede defeat so that we can reduce the tension rising in the nation.

“We thought that the competent EC must have had their results by now. Because you have a commission which is a referee, the two key players have produced our results, and you are to pronounce. And yet they seem to be dragging their feet. It is time for the EC to stop the feet dragging so that the results can be announced and the tensions in the nation will come down,” he said during a press conference held on December 8, 2024.

Vice-President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, officially conceded defeat to his main opponent, John Dramani Mahama, in Ghana’s 2024 Presidential Election.

Dr. Bawumia made the announcement at a press conference on Sunday, December 8, 2024, emphasizing that his decision to concede defeat was motivated by the need to reduce tension and preserve national peace.

He promised that his government would ensure a smooth transition of power to John Mahama and is available to help when the need arises.

However, the EC has stated that it will make a declaration when the 16 regional results have been received from coalition centers.
