Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to publicly assure the nation of his commitment to peaceful elections and a smooth transition of power if his party loses the December 7 polls.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah noted that while President Akufo-Addo has addressed his party supporters, he has yet to address the nation as its leader on this matter.

He urged the President, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, to instruct the security agencies to ensure peaceful polls, stating that they would follow his command.

“Mr. President, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, your word to the security sector that you are interested in a peaceful election will be obeyed. Ensure peaceful elections,” he said during the launch of the NDC’s campaign in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah also appealed to religious leaders, particularly the clergy, to preach peace.

He further urged traditional leaders, especially chiefs, to remain non-partisan as advised by the constitution, warning that political interference in chieftaincy matters could arise otherwise.
