The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has charged members of the party in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency to be vigilant now more than ever, as the country prepares for its general elections in December.

According to Mahama, the errors of the past, where elections were lost in the constituency due to the lack of vigilance, should not be repeated.

Addressing a mini-durbar of NDC members and sympathizers at La-Bawaleshie in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in Accra on July 18, the former president pledged to allocate resources for door-to-door campaign to secure victory for the party’s parliamentary candidate, John Dumelo.

“We all want to rescue our country from the clutches of this rapacious NPP administration and before we can do that, we must win an election. We all know what happens during elections especially in this your constituency. There are times when I believe you could have won the election but because you let your guard down, you lost it. It is not going to happen again. All we are asking from you is vigilance.

“We shall send you the resources. We are going to launch the campaign soon and once we launch the campaign there’s no rest for any of you. We are going to go from house to house continuously from now till December 7, to all the markets, to all the shopping centres. We are going to go and we are going to campaign so that John Dumelo gets elected as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon,” he stated.

As part of the party’s effort to ensure elections are not rigged, Mahama underscored the importance of recruiting qualified individuals as party polling agents.

“All that we require from you now is vigilance and so please the party has asked for people who want to volunteer to be trained as party agents. Kindly make sure that you send your best people. What I said was that preferably if we can find them, we want people with a tertiary education,” he noted.
