The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, has emphasised the importance of thorough scrutiny and informed decision-making for Ghanaian voters as the country gears up for its 2024 elections in December.

Speaking in an interview with GH One TV, she urged citizens to carefully evaluate the promises made by political parties and consider how these promises can be implemented.

"It will be a hotly contested election, if everything I have seen continues. It has been a hotly contested election just like in the UK as well. What we have seen in the UK is that based on the fact that it is hotly contested, it doesn’t mean it won’t be a good one.

"People should have the opportunity to debate the issues, interrogate what promises the political candidates have made, and really challenge that. That should be done in an open, transparent process; that is what democracy is all about," she emphasized.

The upcoming 2024 elections present an opportunity for Ghanaian voters to shape the future direction of their nation. By engaging thoughtfully with electoral issues and holding candidates accountable, citizens can contribute to a democratic process that fosters accountability, transparency, and effective governance.
