Rev. Professor Emmanuel Nash, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Peace Awards and Ghana Leadership Awards, has called for sweeping measures to ensure peaceful, transparent, and credible elections in 2024.

Addressing election stakeholders on December 3, 2024, Rev. Nash emphasized safeguarding Ghana's democracy, protecting lives, and addressing systemic issues undermining elections.

He highlighted the significance of democracy as a system that thrives on fairness and accountability, stating, “Democracy is not merely about casting a vote; it is about ensuring that every vote counts, without intimidation, manipulation, or fear.”

He stressed that Ghana’s resilience as a democratic nation, recognized globally, must not be taken for granted.

Drawing attention to lessons from past elections, including the loss of eight lives during the 2020 general elections, Rev. Nash condemned violence, voter intimidation, and electoral corruption.

“The foundation of democracy is peace and trust, and we must work together to protect these values,” he said.

He called on the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) to uphold integrity and transparency in its operations.

“The EC is the kingmaker in our traditional setup; their attitudes, body language, and actions must inspire trust,” he noted.

He further called on the government, civil society, and journalists to work collectively to prevent electoral violence. “Journalists bear a critical responsibility in ensuring election coverage is accurate and free from sensationalism or partisan bias,” he said.

“We must protect the right to vote, ensure fair representation, and make systemic changes that strengthen democracy,” he urged.
