The Electoral Commission of Ghana says all votes cast in favour of the late flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, in the December 7, 2024, presidential election will be counted as rejected ballots.

In a November 22, 2024 statement, the EC said all such votes will be counted as rejected ballots.

"In view of the fact that the image and party logo of the late Madam Akua Donkor remain on the 2024 Presidential Ballot Paper, the Commission has decided that all votes cast in favour of Madam Akua Donkor will be counted as rejected ballots.

"Votes cast in favour of Madam Akua Donkor will NOT be added to the valid votes cast. The Commission wishes to inform the general public accordingly. The Commission's permanent and temporary staff, as well as agents of the presidential candidates, have been informed," the statement said.

The EC earlier announced that it would maintain Akua Donkor's slot on the ballot paper despite her demise ahead of the general election.

This decision by the EC followed the disqualification of Akua Donkor's running mate, who was presented as her replacement by the party.

Akua Donkor passed away at the age of 72 around 10 pm on Monday, October 28, 2024.
