Richard Jakpa, a businessman and supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed that the party will go to every length to ensure the protection of the ballots come December 7, 2024.

Jakpa, who was recently acquitted by the Court of Appeal for his role in the purchase of ambulances by the Ministry of Health under the erstwhile Mahama government, said that his main focus after the victory in court is ensuring that the NDC and John Mahama get adequate security for the elections.

He noted that members of the NDC are fully aware of the tactics of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and will institute countermeasures to ensure that the outcome of the 2024 elections reflects the overwhelming feeling of Ghanaians.

Richard Jakpa emphasized that the NDC will battle it out with the NPP at the polling grounds and not wait till after the elections to seek redress at the Supreme Court.

“We are winning these elections, so any sacrifice that we need to ensure that we protect the votes of Ghanaians and John Mahama is alive to rule this country and give development to this country, we will do it. I’m here doing what is required of me.

“We are all sacrificing for John Mahama because he cannot do it alone. We are leaving no stone unturned and Ghanaians should be rest assured that the NDC will ensure top-notch security. We are going down there to take the battle to them.

“This time around we have no business at the court. We will battle it out at the polling station. We want Ghanaians to know that the battle lines have been drawn,” he said.

Richard Jakpa, alongside former Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Court of Appeal in the purchase of ambulances during the Mahama era.

The Court of Appeal, by a 2-1 majority decision, stated that the state, through the Attorney-General, failed to adduce evidence to ensure that the case passed the primary threshold of trial.

The Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, has meanwhile indicated his intentions to appeal the ruling.
