Former spokesperson for the late President Jerry John Rawlings, Mr. Victor Smith, has assured members of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the party is fully prepared to thwart any attempts by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the 2024 elections.
Speaking on the Citizen’s Show, hosted by Nana Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Mr. Smith emphasized that the NPP has sinister plans to manipulate the upcoming elections, but the NDC has implemented strategies to prevent any such actions.
Mr. Smith criticized the NPP's focus on "breaking the eight," a reference to the party's ambition to break the eight-year cycle of power alternation in Ghanaian politics.
He noted that the NPP’s fixation with breaking the eight will lead to them breaking their bones because the NDC will meet them boot for boot.
He warned that, given the NPP's poor economic management, their obsession with retaining power could lead to their downfall instead of success.
He stressed that elections are won on election day through the will of the people, not through the use of brute force.
According to Mr. Smith, the 2024 elections are crucial for the NDC, and all research indicates that the party is favored to win.
The former Eastern Regional Minister under former President John Dramani Mahama expressed confidence that the NPP is aware of their slim chances of victory and reiterated the NDC's determination to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
