The Parliament of Ghana has announced that the 2024 edition of the Speaker's Seminal Lecture will facilitate a national dialogue.
The event, scheduled for August 31, 2024, will be held at the Dr. Adani Andan Academic Board Chamber at the University of Development Studies Tamale, in the Northern Region of Ghana.
A statement released by the Public Affairs Subdivision indicated that the 2024 lecture is themed" Working Together, Building Trust for Free, Fair, Credible and Peaceful Elections: The Role of Stakeholders.
Professor Kwasi Anin, a distinguished scholar and expert in security, governance, and international relations, and Kofi Bentil, a private legal practitioner and Vice President of IMANI Africa, are slated to lecture on the theme.
The statement mentioned that the seminal lecture series provides an avenue for discussions on important issues, promoting understanding, collaboration and transparency in governance. The 2024 theme highlights the need for unity between stakeholders, including all political parties, civil society, the media, security agencies and citizens in maintaining democratic values and ensuring peaceful elections.
The statement said, "The event will bring together members of parliament, government officials, representatives from political parties, civil society organisations, academia, the diplomatic community and the media."
"We encourage the public to engage in this important dialogue which is central to the democratic process."
"We look forward to a thought-provoking and impactful lecture that will foster collaboration and trust among all stakeholders as we work toward free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections in 2024."
