22 Cuban doctors posted to Upper East Region

Bolgatanga, March 30, GNA - Dr Felipe Delgado Bustillo, Head of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Bolgatanga has commended the Government for the importance it attached to health delivery in the country.

Dr Bastillo said the brigade would continue to bring its experience to bear in the country by providing Ghanaians with medical services and research into the health problems in the country. He said more than 1.5 million Ghanaians benefited from the services of the 22 medical brigade working in the remote areas of the Upper East Region last year.

Dr Bastillo was speaking at the 12th joint scientific workshop between Ghana and Cuba in Bolgatanga on the theme: "Health for whole, innovative collaboration in the Upper East Region."

He said since Ghana and Cuba started diplomatic relations 28 years ago, Cuban doctors had worked in 59 hospitals in the country. The workshop brought together about 53 medical personnel and students. Mr Lucio Dery, Head of Administration, Regional Health Directorate of Ghana Health Service said the workshop was relevance not only in improving medical care in the region but building the capacity of the participants to improve their performance especially clinical outreaches.
