Awe-stricken residents in the Sunyani Municipality, are still struggling to come over the shock when news about the alleged shooting and killing of a 21 year old mason last Saturday by his 23 years biological brother over GHC 110.00, started making the rounds.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah has confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency on Monday and said this happened at nearby Kotokrom, after a quarrel over the said amount- stipend for deceased’s casual work.

He gave the name of the deceased only as Kofi aged 21and the suspect as Kwadwo, 23, his biological senior brother.

Giving details, he said Kofi (the deceased), a mason and the bread winner of his whole household had been engaged by a landlord to do some casual job for which the amount was charged for his workmanship.

After the job had been done, the landlord asked the deceased to come back later for him to pay him, however, his senior brother who had gotten wind of the arrangement, went ahead of him and succeeded in collecting the money, ASP Tawiah said.

With the semblance of the biblical story of Jacob and Esau, deceased was told his senior brother had come for the money when he approached the landlord.
Feeling very cheated, he headed home and confronted him (suspect) over the issue asking why he should do that, though as usual, all of them were going to use the money for food that day.

ASP Tawiah said the confrontation resulted in a quarrel during which Kwadwo threatened to kill his junior brother if he did not shut up over the issue.

True to his warning, Kwadwo was said to have brought a locally-manufactured gun from his room and allegedly shot the brother through the neck, killing him instantly. He is reported to have fled the scene immediately before the police could get there.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police has meanwhile mounted a search for the 23 year old fugitive murder suspect, whiles investigations are on-going.

ASP Tawiah said the body of Kofi has been conveyed to the Sunyani Regional Hospital Mortuary pending investigations for autopsy.
