234 drivers convicted in Brong-Ahafo

A total of 234 drivers were convicted for various road offences in the Brong-Ahafo Region from January to June this year.

Police Superintendent Stella Sedame, the Regional Commander of Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday in Sunyani.

P/Supt. Sedame added that an amount of GH¢76,950.00 Court fine was paid into the consolidated fund.

The offences were driving under the influence of alcohol, over-speeding, driving without licenses, over-loading, using expired documents and dangerous driving, she said.

P/Supt. Sedame said 265 cases were reported, saying out of it 253 were processed for Court and 234 were convicted whilst 12 were awaiting trial and nine were under investigations.

She said bench warrant had been issued for the arrest of four, six had been discharged and one person jailed.

P/Supt. Sedame urged drivers to obey the traffic rules and regulations and avoid parking their vehicles on the road to cause danger to other drivers and commuters.

She warned that all defaulting drivers were liable to prosecution and urged them to exhibit good attitude on the road.

P/Supt. Sedame stated that the Department would continue with its educational programmes for drivers and pedestrians to realise the need to assist in preventing road crashes.

She appealed to the media to help in the education of drivers to ensure road safety for travelers and other road users.
