Former President and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has reiterated that his next administration will abolish the double-track system in the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.

“We will abolish the double track system so that all our children can go to school at the same time and vacate at the same time”, Mr Mahama stated during the launch of the NDC Youth Manifesto on Monday, August 12.

Also part of his manifesto is his promise to institute a 24-hour economy which he states will ensure a 3-shift system for businesses or workers to operate within 8-hour interval.

“Hospitality industry; our restaurants, our discotheques, our night clubs, our hotels , 24/7, 24 hours a day”, Mahama cited.

But DCE for Amansie South District, Lawyer Clement Opoku Gyamfi has punched holes in this 24-hour economy policy.

Lawyer Clement Opoku Gyamfi, speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, found it ridiculous that Mahama would promise to cancel the double track system which has 2 shifts aimed at facilitating the education of Ghanaian children but tells Ghanaians to vote for him to implement a three-shift system under his 24-hour economy.

“How on earth can someone who is promising to scrap a shift system which is even an intervention to curb school dropout, then you turn round and promise a three-shift system. You say two shifts is bad but three shifts now, to you, is better. If any shift is not good, why do you have to promise another shift?”, he poked Mahama.
