2nd Lady: My husband isn’t gay, period!

Second Lady Matilda Amissah-Arthur has rebuffed rumours that Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur is gay.

“My husband is not gay,” Mrs Amissah-Arthur who has been married to the Economist for over three decades said in an interview aired Saturday on Joy FM’s home Affairs programme.

“We have two children, how can he be gay?” she queried.

“I really don’t know why it should come up again…the person says I’m not gay, what else can you do, there’s nothing else you can do.

“…I’m the wife, we have two children, I would know if he is gay,” adding: “No no no my husband is not gay, has never been gay, period!”

She believes the gay tag has been slapped on the Vice-President to taint his image. Mr Amissah-Arthur, during his vetting by Parliament’s appointment Committee in August 2012, after his nomination for the post by President John Mahama, denied categorically that he was ever gay.

The nominee at the time said media reports suggesting he is gay, were nothing but a fabrication by some disgruntled persons who tried to extort money from him.

He told the committee the allegation was masterminded by an old school mate who fell out with him after he (Amissah-Arthur) refused to give him money.

“It is not true, it is absolutely not true. I have not seen this gentleman for 40 something years. I saw him once just for about two minutes. He came to my house to ask for money and I gave him a little money and I have not seen him again.

“It absolutely cannot be true of the claims that are being made,” he stated.
