Over 300 armed police have been stationed at various vantage points around the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, ahead of the mammoth durbar of the Akwesidae Kese which also coincides with the 17th Anniversary of the ascension of the golden stool by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The event is expected to attract dignitaries including President John Dramani Mahama, leaders of various political parties, Ministers of State, the Diplomatic Corps, persons from the Diaspora and members of the media.
Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander ACP Ampofo Duku in an interview with Ultimate FM’s Isaac Justice Bediako, disclosed that the security agencies are not leaving anything to chance taking into account recent terrorists attacks within the West African sub region.
“Security arrangements as usual are very tight. We are mindful of the happenings in the West African sub region. We deployed enough men and women on ground and briefed them on their responsibilities to ensure that the event starts and ends successfully’, he disclosed.
According to him, enough security has been provided to nib any unforeseen occurrence aimed at thwarting Sunday’s celebrations in the bud.
