Parliament has named the 300-seater auditorium in the State Tower Block, popularly known as ‘Job 600’ after the late Rt. Hon. Justice Daniel Francis Annan. First Speaker of the First and Second Parliaments of the Fourth Republic.
Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, who announced this at a symposium organized by the Legislature in Accra on Friday said the decision was to honour the late Speaker who distinguished himself so well as a Speaker during the first and second Parliaments.
“I have done the necessary consultation with members of Parliamentary Services Board of which I’m a member and we have agreed that from today this auditorium will be known and called Justice Daniel Francis Kweipe Annan auditorium” he announced much to the applause of the gathering.
The symposium was under the theme “Democratic Governance by the three Arms of Government under the 1992 constitution”.
The Speaker commenting further extolled the virtues of the late Justice D. F. Annan and described him as a man with skills and wisdom who stood up to the task in steering the affairs of the House even when there was no opposition in Parliament.
He also described the late Justice and Speaker as a man who always had the unity and cohesion of the country at heart.
Due to this, the late Justice D. F. Annan developed a consensus building and stressed the need for all the Arms of Government to build consensus for national development.
One of his hallmarks, the Speaker Adjaho recalled, was his position to never allow “one constitutional body to attack another constitutional body.”
He urged Members of Parliament and other stakeholders to try at all times to uphold the dignity of the House.
The late Justice D. F. Annan, according to the Rt. Hon. Adjaho operated from the same building where the auditorium had been build.
The event was well attended by dignitaries, Diplomats, High Ranking Members from all the three Arms of Government and the general public.
