A joint Police and the Task Force of the Lotto Receivers Union (LRU) of the Department of National Lotteries (DNL) at the weekend arrested 31 persons for operating illegal banker-to-banker, using numbers of DNL.
Mr Dan Mensah, Chairman of the LRU told the Ghana News Agency that the suspects were rounded up at Madina, Dansoman, Adenta, Odorkor and Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Mr Mensah said the "LRU as a body, would not tolerate any of their members who may be caught by the law in such circumstances and urged them to desist from such acts."
Mr Kofi Frimpong, General Secretary of the LRU called on the government not limit the campaign against indiscipline to the roads but look at commerce and business too.
"If you sabotage the economy by denying government taxes, you cannot blame it for lack of social infrastructure."
He said these "operators are annexing the lotteries market, which may eventually lead to its collapse and also undermine its revenue generating efforts for the government.
Mr Frimpong commended the police for their support and the mature manner in which they handled the operation.
When contacted by the GNA, Chief Inspector Jambueidu Abubakar, Station Officer in-charge of Lotteries Police Station confirmed the arrests.
