National Youth Coordinator of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah has described the acquisition of Thirty Four [34] luxury cars for the presidency as “useless”.

He asked if the President before the arrival of the cars walked to state functions or complained he needed the cars as purported by some NDC members.

“This is just a waste of money”, he said.

According to Citi FM, government over the weekend took delivery of Thirty Four [34] cars for the presidency, ten of which have bullet resistant exterior.

Citi FM indicated that the luxury cars arrived on a Global African Airlines cargo plane.

The presidential fleet contract was awarded by the John Mahama administration barely a week before they left office.

The original number of cars ordered was Forty Three [43]. The New Patriotic Party administration, which had attempted to cancel the entire contract but failed due to certain clauses in the contract, managed to reduce the number to 34.

By so doing, it saved the country Three Million Dollars, from the initial cost of Nine Million dollars for the 43 cars. They also avoided incurring a judgement debt, by deciding not to cancel the contract.

Speaking to the issue on NEAT FM morning how ‘Ghana Montie’, Divine Nkrumah after commending the Nana Addo-led government for saving three million dollars from the initial amount, lambasted the Mahama administration for ‘wasting’ such huge amount.

“What is the motive behind the purchase? 34 cars for the presidency, are we going to use them to transport cattle? Common ambulance we don’t have some here in our various hospitals yet buying luxury cars for the presidency”, he said.
