35 Nigerian women in Ghana jails over drugs

According to the Nigerian newspaper, Nigerian Tribune, 35 Nigerian women have been jailed for drug trafficking in Ghana. The paper gathered that the women had been sentenced to serve various terms of imprisonment in a Ghanaian prison after they were apprehended at various borders in the country.

Sources at the Nigerian High Commission in Accra disclosed that the women traffickers were arrested while trying to smuggle hard drugs into the country.
According to investigations, most of the drug traffickers were caught at the border while trying to cross into Ghana for onward journey to Europe and the United States of America.
Following the development, Nigerians travelling either by air or by road are now being subjected to serious screening by Ghananian immigration officials.
The smuggling of hard drugs by Nigerians has been on the increase.
