38 benefit from mathematics skills dev’t training

A total of 38 teachers have benefited from a two day mathematics teacher skills development training to help improve their professional competence in the teaching of mathematics in the Upper Manya Krobo District.

The participants include 29 teachers, eight circuit supervisors and one mathematics coordinator.

The program which was implemented and managed by NOVAN Education and Training, started as a community base project to help improve mathematics in the district and has so far benefited over 90 mathematics teachers as well as 400 Junior High Students, since its inception in November 2013.

The current program enables teachers to be trained in the use of ICT for mathematics instruction and also hands-on activities that assist in demystifying mathematics to learners.

The participants were introduced to Excel for teaching mathematics and mathematical knowledge teaching as well as hands on activities to perform and understand the skills needed for effective mathematics teaching and learning.

They were thought how to create a wordbook, calculating data with formula, data entering, creating chart using data and information filtering.

The participants were also introduced to the use of Microsoft mathematics and covered topics such as the use of interface, performing numerical computation, equation and inequality, plotting 2D, 3D and polar graphs, using triangle solver, the unit converter and the ink input.

The facilitators recommended that, Plan Ghana who are the sponsors, and the Ghana Education Service should monitor the participants to assess the use of the skills acquired.
