A man was stabbed to death during an argument at Somanya in the Eastern Region Sunday evening, police sources have confirmed.

The victim, identified as Teye Emmanuel, 40, was stabbed in the head and chest with a knife near the Akutunya lorry park late Sunday afternoon.

Bystanders rushed the victim to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital but he could not be saved with medics pronouncing him dead minutes after being brought to the facility.

The slaying left the grounds pooled with the blood of the victim.

Detailing the circumstances to GhanaWeb, a police source said a brother of the victim, one Djornorbuah, around 18:15hrs on Sunday, October 20, 2024, reported to the Somanya Police that the assailant known in the neighbourhood as Dodzi had stabbed his brother.

The police, based on the report, proceeded to the crime scene where the victim was conveyed to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital. After fruitless efforts to save the life of the deceased, he succumbed to his injuries.

Giving the circumstances that led to the fatal incident, the police source said, “There were three people seated at Akutunya having their meeting and the information we heard was that they were arguing…it was then that the Dodzi came from nowhere and started arguing with them…and then it was then that he stabbed [the victim] …he was having the knife in his pocket…he stabbed the head first before stabbing the chest.”

Teye’s remains have been deposited at the morgue of the Yilo Krobo District Hospital as police conduct further investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, Dodzi, identified by residents as mentally deranged, after committing the heinous crime absconded from the scene.

Police are yet to make any arrests.

Alleged attempted lynching of suspect

Meanwhile, the attention of the police was drawn Monday morning to nearby Brigade, another suburb of Somanya where an unidentified man lay abandoned in a gutter.

The victim, abandoned with multiple injuries, was said to be battling for his life after allegedly surviving an attempted lynching.

The victim who has not been able to speak to police so far, is on admission at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital where he’s receiving treatment under police guard.

Information points to the victim as Dodzi, said to have murdered Teye Emmanuel Sunday evening.

However, the Somanya Police when contacted, could not confirm this new twist, adding that eyewitnesses of the murder were yet to be sent to the hospital to establish if indeed, the victim is the murderer in the earlier case.

“A young man was found in a drain so we quickly went to the place, police went to the place and found the guy lying in a pool of blood so they sent him to the hospital for treatment so as I’m talking to you, he’s on admission,” said the source.

When asked if the victim could be the assailant in the Sunday murder, the police source answered, “no, we don’t know. What we know is that the suspect has absconded and the police is doing their underground investigations.”
