Forty-six members of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) contingent on peacekeeping operation in South Sudan have been repatriated to Ghana over sexual exploitation allegations leveled against them.

They arrived on Wednesday, 30 May 2018.

A statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, 31 May said: “The 46 police officers were repatriated on administrative grounds as per the United Nations rules and regulations and will resume full formal police operations as we await the full investigative report from the United Nations for further actions.”

In February 2018, the Police Public Affairs Directorate of the police service issued a press release to the effect that some members of the FPU on mission in South Sudan were alleged to have engaged in sexual exploitation and abuses.
