Five people are in the grips of the police after preventing revenue collectors from issuing tickets to traders at CMB and Makola Market in Accra.

They are Musah Muship, 25, Abdulai Mohammed, 41, Issahaku Sulemana, 32, Adam Mahama, 39, and Sulemana Issahaku, 32.

The Greater Accra regional police spokesperson ASP Effia Tenge has confirmed the incident and subsequent arrest to the media. She said the five are scrap dealers.

“The suspects allegedly seized toll tickets, assaulted the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Revenue Collectors and [also] collected cash of about Ghc2000,” she said.

There are a number of cases of forceful takeovers of public facilities after the New Patriotic Party came to power. The thugs are believed to be supporters of the NPP.

The opposition NDC at a press conference Thursday asked President Akufo-Addo to call his supporters to order because they cannot be blamed for “any reprisal attacks.”

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr John Kudalor, has ordered his men to arrest people fueling trouble in the country.
