5 cable thieves busted

Five men have been arrested by the Police for having in their possession some quantities of electricity cables believed to be property of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The suspects are George Nettey, 40, Patrick Ohene Djan, 28, John Nelson, 23, Mohammed Iddrisu, 18 and Issifu Abbey, 21.

The cables fully loaded in a Kia truck with registration number GS 4467Y have also been impounded by the Accra Regional Police Command.

The suspects are in police custody assisting in investigations.

Narrating the story to DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Frank Adufati, Accra Regional Crime Officer said the suspects were arrested on July 11, 2013 around 2:00pm at house number 7, Guggisberg Avenue, Dansoman.

Acting upon information that the suspects were offloading some cables believed to have been stolen, the policemen led by ASP John Agbemebiase swiftly moved to the scene.

Suspects John Nelson, Issufu Abbey and Mohammed Iddrisu were spotted offloading the items from the Kia truck while suspects Patrick Ohene Djan, driver and George Nettey who claimed ownership of the items, stood by.

They were immediately arrested by the Police and brought to the Regional Headquarters for questioning.

Upon interrogation, suspect George Nettey who claimed ownership of the items also mentioned one Charles as his source of supply.

Efforts are now being made to arrest the said Charles who supplied the items.

Meanwhile, officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana have identified the cables as their property.
