5 teenagers arrested

Five teenagers at Bepoase in the Ashanti Region have been grabbed by the police for allegedly engaging in prostitution.

The teenagers, between the ages of 13 and 16, reportedly hired a room at Bepoase where they engaged in their illegal activities.

Men of different sizes reportedly patronised the services of the young girls for an undisclosed fee.

Michael Opoku, Assemblyman for Bopoase, reported the illicit act of the kids to the police, leading to their arrest on Saturday.

He disclosed on Kessben FM’s programme dubbed ‘Breaking News’ hosted by Ali Baba, that the young girls were being cautioned by police.

Opoku said the landlady, whose house the girls were residing, detected their illicit act so she informed the Unit Committee (UC) members of the area on Friday.

The UC members then made the Assemblyman aware of the shocking incident so he also informed the police to take action.

Opoku said the young girls, whom he described as looking very tiny, were finally picked up by the police on Saturday morning.

He said that the police were questioning the young girls to determine why they chose to sell their bodies for money.

Opoku suspected parental neglect and bad behaviour by the suspects might have influenced the girl’s decision to engage in prostitution.

He said one of the girls confirmed to him that she didn’t know the whereabouts of her parents.

The Assemblyman said he was doing everything possible to trace the whereabouts of the parents of the girls.

Opoku noted it was wrong for any parent to shun his/her parental duties to let their children suffer.

He suggested the law should deal with the parents of the girls should they be found culpable in the case.

Opoku wondered why some men could satisfy their libido on such tiny girls, stressing they didn’t look appealing for sex.

He observed that apart from one of the girls, who looked a bit matured, the remaining four looked tiny and too small to engage in prostitution.
